Every Pre-K child is on the brink of something big, and Michigan’s Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP) helps them step into that next stage with confidence, curiosity, and care. Designed for children ages four to five, the GSRP classroom bridges early learning with kindergarten readiness through hands-on exploration, small-group instruction, and individualized planning that meets every child where they are.
Our teachers encourage problem-solving and creativity by balancing academic foundations, social-emotional learning, and active play.
The HighScope Curriculum Approach
Rooted in the HighScope Curriculum, our Pre-K program follows a research-based, child-centered approach that promotes active participatory learning, where children build knowledge through hands-on experiences with people, materials, and ideas. Teachers act as learning partners, encouraging children to plan their activities, carry out their ideas, and reflect on what they learned through the HighScope plan–do–review process.
This engaging approach supports cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development while building confidence and independence. Each day includes literacy, writing, math, science, art, music, and movement woven into meaningful experiences that help children take an active role in their learning.

This program’s goals emphasize readiness and joyful learning. Through small-group instruction, differentiated activities, and our curriculum, children build strong foundations in literacy, math, science, social-emotional growth, and life skills so they enter kindergarten confident and excited to learn.

Each day in the GSRP classroom follows a predictable yet flexible rhythm that helps children feel secure while encouraging independence. The schedule balances structured learning, creative expression, and plenty of active play. Small-group instruction, hands-on centers, and outdoor experiences keep the day engaging and developmentally appropriate, preparing children for the routines and expectations of kindergarten.
